Genetically Monitored Mosquitoes will be used to Combat Dengue Fever

Picture
Abstract:
According to new health articles, Scientists of Malaysia are considering to release genetically modified mosquitoes (GM mosquitoes) to combat dengue fever. It is in a land mark field trial but unfortunately environmentalists are not convinced.

Objective:
In this medical information it is told that insects have been engineered so that their off springs quickly die, restraining the growth of the population.Through this technique researchers are hoping  to at last eradicate the dengue mosquito completely.

Females of the Aedes species are responsible for spreading dengue fever. This fever has killed 100 people this year in Malaysia alone and more than 50 people in Pakistan.

Design:
In the first experiment of this kind in Asia, 2,000 to 3,000 male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes would be released in two Malaysian states in October or November. The proposal field trial follows a series of lab tests conducted in Malaysia since 2006, and government is seeking public feed back before moving to the next step.

Participants:
2,000-3,000 male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

Setting or Place:
This study was conducted in Malaysia.

Limitations:

Gurmit Singh, Head of center of Environment, Technology and Department said that once you release GM mosquitoes in environment you have no control and it can create more problems than solving them and these could be fail to prevent dengue.
