Motivation-It’s Not Your Sales Manager’s Job
By S. Anthony Iannarino
Motivation, that is. It is not your sales manager's job to motivate you. In fact, he can't motivate you. Truth be told, he can't even threaten you or inspire you. Anthony Robbins can't motivate you. No one can. All they can do is speak to the greatest motivational speaker in the world and have him speak to you.
Who is Elmer Wheeler … and how can he boost your response rate?
By John Wood
“Don’t sell the steak, sell the sizzle.”
That just might be the most famous piece of sales advice ever. And as a copywriter, knowing the real meaning behind those words can transform your writing – and your career.
I often wondered who came up with such a great line. Until about a week ago, I still didn’t know …
I was reading Joe Vitale’s latest book, Buying Trances. In it, he mentions Elmer Wheeler as its originator.

The Puppy Dog Close
By Rick Johnson
The puppy dog close is one of the most effective ways to get the sale that anyone ever dreamed up. It got its name form the pet store industry. Let me explain. Have you ever walked by a pet store and saw adorable little puppies playing and frolicking in the front window? Have you ever just visited a pet store for any reason and just happened to go over to the puppy cages to look at the puppies? What happens? The sales clerk approaches and makes a comment like;
"Aren't these little puppies just adorable?"
In Sales, There Are No Rules (and you have to know them all)
By S. Anthony Iannarino
It is only normal to want to learn what is effective, practice it, and gain competence. Sales has rule sets, all of which have been explored, developed, and codified over many years. We all fall into the trap of believing that Method A is the most effective method . . . except when it isn't and it doesn't get us the outcome we wanted. Sometimes we are tempted to believe that we didn't execute the method correctly.
But true effectiveness often comes from breaking the rules. Sometimes you have to take risks, go another direction, and disregard the rule sets completely. The trick is to be able to recognize when something is not working, and then being creative enough to explore other possibilities that might lead to the outcome you were after in the first place.
Waiting is not a sales activity.
By S. Anthony Iannarino
What are you waiting for?
I often hear salespeople say that they are "waiting" for some event to occur before they call their prospect. Most of the time the event that they are waiting for is the passage of time. They say things like "I am waiting to call them in August," or "I am waiting to call them next quarter."
Many salespeople believe that their prospect recognizes that they have allowed time to pass, and, as such, now has an improved opinion of the salesperson for having waited before re-approaching the prospect. This is especially true when the prospect has requested that the salesperson call at some time in the future. Nothing could be further from the truth (in most cases, the prospect doesn't even remember being called).
Waiting is not a sales activity.
The main reason that salespeople decide to wait is simply that they don't have another way to create value for the prospect. Our challenge as sales professionals is to generate interest in our product or service, and that is easier to do if you can create value for the prospect. "Waiting" does in fact create value for the prospect . . . they have one fewer salesperson calling them. But waiting does not create real value for either the client or for your company.

What can you do to create value for your prospect now? What kind of sales activities can you add to your arsenal of tools that generate value for your prospects and generate interest in you and your company? If you don't have tools and techniques that create both value and interest, you need to go create them.
