Hormone medication for breast cancer can cause heart Problems

In a recent health articles it has been described  that the hormone medication (Aromatse inhibitors) for the treatment of Breast Cancer has higher risk of Heart Problems.







This research has been presented by Dr.Eitan Amir with his colleagues from the Princess Margareta Hospital,Canada in association with San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS)
The drug currently used for breast cancer is tamoxifen.It is mixed antagonist(antagonist of estrogen receptor in tissues of breast.) This drug is now replacing with Aromatse inhibitors.Some commonly used Aromatse inhibitors are:
  • Anastrozole
  • Letrozole
  • Exemestane
  • Vorozole
  • Formestane
  • Fadrozole

The research team tested tamoxifen and 7 Aromatase inhibitors in more than 29,000 patients,They observed that patients treated with Aromatase inhibitors have 25.7% more chances to develop symptoms of heart problems.
"We found that this therapy is closely related to produce more heart problems like angina and heart attacks than the tamoxifen"said by Dr. Eitan Amir.
" Women with post-menopause alongwith breast cancer should take serious precautions with aromatase inhibitors."furtherer said by Dr.Eitan
