A new study conducted on rats says that the use of green tea along with a high fat diet resulted in gain of less body weight i.e weight loss and less accumulation of body fat.

The main objective of this health research was to study the effect of green tea in weight management. Green tea has also beneficial effects in Alzheimer’s and certain cancers, improving cardiovascular and oral health. Although both (1.1 & 2% aqueous extract of green tea) doses improved cardiovascular risk indicator and also inhibited protein digestion.
Design:
It was proposed that consumption of equivalent to five to eight cups of green tea a day was associated with a 5.6 % decrease in the gain of body weight , and 17.8% decrease in fat accumulation over eight weeks. Green tea contains 30 to 40 percent of water extract able polyphenols. The four primary polyphenols found in fresh tea leaves are epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, and epicatechin.

Results:
Result showed that animal had significantly lowers measures of atherogenesis of about 14.35%, compared to non supplemented animal.
Conclusion:
In this medical information It is concluded that green tea extracts may have preventive effect on accumulation of visceral fat but only in higher doses which resulted in significant weight loss.
